Bitten (Women of the Otherworld #1) by Kelley Armstrong

Goodreads Summary: Elena Michaels seems like the typically strong and sexy modern woman, She lives with her architect boyfriend, writes for a popular newspaper, and works out at the gym. She's also a werewolf.

Elena has done all she can to assimilate to the human world, but the man whose bite changed her existence forever, and his legacy, continue to haunt her. Thrown into a desperate war for survival that tests her allegiance to a secret clan of werewolves, Elena must recon with who, and what, she is in this passionate, page-turning novel.

Why I Read This Book: This book was recommended to me by a friend (who isn't a big reader) and then confirmed as good by another person who does read a lot, so I wanted to pick it up soon after that.

Review: I enjoyed this book from the beginning. Some books that are a part of a larger series can take a little longer to get into, but that wasn't the case with this. I didn't love it, but the book had all the right ingredients: hot boys, paranormal activity, some steamy love scenes, and an exciting plot. I can't actually pinpoint exactly why I didn't love it, but it took me over a week to read, so it wasn't calling my name at all hours of the day. I actually had times where I felt more in the mood to read the less exciting book I was reading at the same time. So, I;m not sure what the book was missing, but it was still really good, and I will definitely be picking up the next book very soon!
Any other opinions on this one would be appreciated!

Blog Hop (5) and Follow Friday (3)

It has been awhile since I participated in these hops, which is sad because I really like them, but I have just been so busy lately that I don't get my post up in time, so I just don't do it! Working 2 jobs and doing 3 courses is time consuming!! haha

So, Follow Friday is hosted by both Parajunkee and Alison Can Read, so great blogs (check em out, they're linked!) With these, they also do a feature blog, and this week's are: In Which Ems Review Books and Reading in the Corner so take a peek ;)
For the question this week they have asked:

If you could have dinner with your favorite book character, who would you eat with and what would you serve?

This is kind of a no brainer for me, because I would definitely have dinner with Hogwart's favorite trio, Harry, Ron, and Hermionie! Preferably at the castle, so the food could just kind of ...show up! But, in the event I had to prepare something, I would make a roast chicken, and Yorkshire pudding with some veggies, and of course tea and banoffe pie for dessert!

Book Blogger Hop  And for the weekly Book Blogger Hop hosted by Crazy-for-Books, an equally as great blog, the question is: “What is your favorite Halloween costume?
Even if you don’t celebrate, what kinds of costumes do you like?”
Easily the best costume I  have ever had was my Ninja Turtle costume when I was about 8. My grandmother is an amazing seamstress, and she made the mother of all amazing costumes for me ever year. Here in Canada it is COLD in October, so she always made them extra warm, and I never had to ruin my costume with a coat. The ninja turtle costume had it all, I don't have a picture to post, because I don't have a scanner, but now I'm going to track one down, because you NEED to see this costume, it is amazing! I will try and get one up before the end of the weekend!

Until then, you can look at the costumes I made for us last year (hand sewed, as I do not have a sewing machine!! haha)

This is the last Book Blog question for an unknown amount of time, so I just wanted to put a small thank you for hosting to Crazy-for-Books, as this was the first meme I ever participated in, and I'm sure I have here to thank for several of my followers :)

Blog Hop (4) and Follow Friday (2)

This weeks Book Blogger Hop is available here (and for those who don't know what it is, she explaines it as well!)

Book Blogger Hop

The question is: “In honor of Banned Books Week, what is your favorite “banned or frequently challenged book”?” Click here for 2010-11 list in PDF format. You can also click HERE to view past years and choose from any of those titles!

To be honest, I had to peruse the lists, because to my knowledge, we don't get a lot of books banned here in Canada. I remember having our 6th grade teacher read "Underground to Canada" out loud in class, and I would say that's probably banned in some places. When I was reading over the list, I was so surprised! Things like the 4th Sisterhood of the Travelling Pants book - seriously!! Some of them I wanted to pick for this just because I couldn't believe they were there! But, I eventually settled on Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire because that is my favorite book from my favorite series. As a side note, these lists make me want to punch out a lot of parents. Sorry if that offends you. I presume I will now find my blog on the Banned Blogs list, if such a think exists.

For my Follow Friday Fix, I went to Alisoncanread.com this week and you can too by clicking here

This week's question is:

What book that hasn't been turned into a movie (yet) would you most like to see make it to the big screen, and who would you like cast as your favorite character?

This is a pretty tough question! I chose "How I Paid for College" by Marc Acito because it is a HILARIOUS book, and would make a great movie. There are quite a few characters in it, and its been awhile since I read it, but I'll do my best to cast it (also, you may need to adjust age a little bit, I sometimes forget that stars get older...)

Edward - Jay Baruchel
Paula - Selena Gomez
Kelly - Ashley Tisdale
Natie - Kevin McHale
Doug - Joseph Gordon-Levitt
Ziba - Megan Fox
Edward's father Al - Jon Hamm
Edward's Stepmother Dagmar - Gwyneth Paltrow

Blog Hop (3) and Follow Friday (1)

I missed the Blog Hop last week because my in-laws were in, and my blogging had to take a back seat to them, because I don't get to see them that often! Also, in my review of the past two Book Blog Hops, I noticed a lot of people doing the Follow Friday (hosted by parajunkee and AlisonCanRead) as well. I didn't realize I was going to love these meme's so much, so I held of doing another (I'm just a blogging newbie after all!) but now I'm going to join :)

For any other Newbie's, the Book Blog Hop is hosted by Crazy-for-Books and it's a fun way to meet other blogger's by simply answering a little (normally book-related) question, and then hopping around to see what everyone else has said!

Book Blogger Hop
This week's question is: not yet posted

The new meme I'm doing this week is Follow Friday, it is another question based meme, with the same sort of principle, except the folks at Parajunkee and AlisonCanRead also pick a blog to promote, which I think is pretty cool because sometimes people participate by answering the question, but not going around to other people's blogs.

Do you have a favorite series that you read over and over again? Tell us a bit about it and why you keep on revisiting it?

I used to reread books more frequently when I didn't have an ereader (it's too easy to connect and buy something new now), but I am still forever reading Summer Sisters by Judy Blume, and I have reread the shorter Harry Potter books a few times. I have so many books on my TBR list that rereading would take up too much time! Also, now that I have started blogging, I need to read new material to keep you updated on!

I really enjoy these meme's, so a BIG thank you to the hosts of these!!

Book Blog Hop

Another Book Blogger Hop from Crazy-for-Books:

Book Blogger Hop

Thanks to Lori for this week’s question!
(you can find the Book Blogger Hop question @ Crazy-for-Book's page here)

Many of us primarily read one genre of books, with others sprinkled in. If authors stopped writing that genre, what genre would you start reading? Or would you give up reading completely if you couldn't read that genre anymore?

This question doesn't really apply to me as I read many types of books. I probably concentrate mostly on YA and chick-lit, but I also love biographies and a some fantasy. I don't think I would quit reading at all, but if chick-lit no longer existed, I think I would turn to non-fiction by women (perhaps thinks by Chelsea Handler). I don't think I could ever stop reading, it's way too much a part of who I am.

Book Blog Hop

So, this week was pretty crazy for me. I had to go away for work to Corner Brook, which is a very beautiful place on the west coast of Newfoundland. The 13 hour days I was working didn't leave me with a whole lot of time to blog, but I did get a fair amount of reading done, so hopefully I can get a few reviews in this week.

Book Blogger Hop

I enjoyed participating in last weeks Book Blog Hop hosted by Crazy for Books, so I thought I would do it again this week. For the original post, and to check out her great blog, you can click here.

This week's Hop Question is:
“What are you most looking forward to this fall/autumn season – A particular book release? Halloween? The leaves changing color? Cooler temperatures? A vacation? (If your next season is other than fall/autumn, tell us about it and what you are most looking forward to in your part of the world!)”

For me this fall I am looking forward to a lot of things actually, it is probably my favorite season, because its still nice, but its not sweltering (not that is ever really gets that hot in Newfoundland). To choose one though, I will pick school. I am looking forward to starting school. I graduated from my undergraduate degree in May of 2010, and this Wednesday will be my first day of school for my Master's degree. I am going to be working on it part time, and I have full time employment. I love the first day of school, and all the hope and excitement that comes with it. After the first few weeks it gets tough, but those first few classes are always so much fun.

Otherwise, I look forward to reading some of your answers, and getting out a few more review posts this week!

Happy Hopping!

Blog Hop

Hello All,

So I have been an active book blogger for about a week now, and I'm really loving it. Knowing I have made this commitment has made me do more reading (in a good way!). In the evenings instead of sitting in front of the TV until way too late, I have been going to bed early and reading. It's very relaxing and gets me to sleep earlier!

Now, like almost everything in life, blogging is better with friends :) So I have decided to join in the Book Blogger Hop from the Crazy for Books site. I have spent a lot of time lately looking at other peoples blogs, and now I'm ready to have some people come look at mine too! Hope to hear as much feedback as you're willing to give!

Book Blogger Hophttp://crazy-for-books.com/2011/08/book-blogger-hop-826-829.html

This week's question from Book Blogger Hop is actually not book related, which is funny because it's my first go at it! However, the question is:

“Non-book-related this week!! Do you have pets?”

And my answer is this:

Yes, I do have a pet. I have one dog, his name is Oliver. He was rescued by my boyfriend from a non-profit no-kill center called Heavenly Creatures and he is the most lovely dog ever. He is part Long-Haired Daschound and part German Sheppard. He is about 35-40 pounds, but he doesn't even reach your knees! Adorable!
Here we are snuggling on the couch, because we love each other
I also sort of have 2 cats, but they live at home with my Mom and Dad, as you see I moved away. But I still consider them to be sort of mine, their names are Holly and Noel.

So, here's to hoping that my participation in this Hop will make me some new blog friends! As I love to know about other blogs, and would love to have some more people checking mine out!
